Job Description: The Clinical Assistant Professor teaches on campus and online courses offered by the Department of Health Information Management (HIM) to undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Science degree program, as well as two minor programs, offered through the KU School of Health Professions (SHP) Department of HIM. This position reports to the Chair of HIM in the KU SHP. The selected candidate will focus primarily on teaching but is also expected to provide service and/or scholarly contributions to the department, school, university, and/or the industry. Courses assigned are determined based on the needs of the department, but may include coursework in introductory concepts in HIM, quality and performance improvement in healthcare, reimbursement and finance, health information systems, and management, as examples. This position requires a high level of accountability and professionalism, as well as an ability to work effectively with diverse individuals. Academic rank, salary, and tenure/non-tenure status are dependent on the education and experience of the selected candidate.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
Education/Credentials:
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential
• Master's degree in a related discipline such as HIM, informatics, business, healthcare administration, education, or similar.
Work Experience:
• 3 years of experience in healthcare and/or higher education work settings
• Demonstrated experience using various forms of technology
Preferred Qualifications
Education: Doctoral degree
Work Experience:
• Prior higher education experience, including on campus and online teaching as well as participating in curriculum development
• Familiarity with online course technologies such as learning management systems and lecture capture systems
• Evidence of previous scholarship such as article publication and/or research
• Evidence of professional service to the HIM profession such as volunteerism with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), component state associations of AHIMA, or other relevant professional associations
